Welcome back to another Fetchly Diary session! Today we got to meet Marina from the Project Management Department. She has been a huge part of Fetchly over the past year, so buckle up and get excited to learn more about her!
What are 3 Fun Facts About You?
I used to play professional handball. It was crazy, but a good experience for me. I stopped after a while, but it’s still something I would like to get involved with again in the future.
I play beach tennis during the weekends when it's sunny out. I’m basically a 12-year-old girl in a 38-year-old body. I love anything that keeps me on my feet so that I can play in a group.
I love to travel. I even have a huge, scratchable map hanging on my wall just over my table, and every time I visit somewhere new, I scratch it off the map. So far I’ve visited 27 countries! One of my favourite trips was when I went to Thailand to take care of elephants for three months.
A bonus fun fact about me is I have two dogs that are my babies. Their names are Nutella and Cookie. Most mornings I will take them on a long walk to the beach or to the lake close by. I like to enjoy the great outdoors with them.
What makes Fetchly different from other companies you've worked at?
One thing I noticed while I was in the interview process was how the job requirements were focused on your relationship with the other team members and emphasized treating people with kindness and respect. When I started here I was a bit worried about fitting into the role, but everyone at Fetchly was so helpful and supportive. I even felt like all my efforts and ideas were recognized from day one.
I really appreciate how others at Fetchly are aware of how many tasks I have on my plate. If there is too much on my plate they offer to take some off of it when necessary. My well-being is a priority at Fetchly, and that doesn’t seem to be the norm at other companies. We are truly a blessed company to be filled with the kindest people who always try their best.
The team members at Fetchly are really what set us apart from other companies. The people here are kind, hard-working, helpful, and pleasant to be around. It’s easy to maintain a helpful attitude because everyone is recognized for their hard work and encouraged to share their ideas.
What advice would you give to a new PM?
I give the same advice to everyone, “Do your best and bring your best!” In a startup, it is important to always be trying your hardest, even when you feel like you are not doing enough. Even when you feel like others are doing more, that does not mean you aren’t doing enough or that what you are doing is unimportant. It actually might be the opposite, you could be completing the team!
It feels like we are one big family at Fetchly because we spend a lot of time together, help each other overcome difficulties, and are open and honest with each other about our needs or ideas we feel would benefit Fetchly. Overall, you have to be open to learning and bringing new things to the table.
What’s your favourite show?
I love documentaries, especially travel documentaries. I have recently been keeping up with different documentary series by Ewan McGregor, they are called Long Way Round, Long Way Down, and Long Way Up. Each documentary series follows Ewan and company as they travel around the globe. The crazy thing is they do this using only two motorbikes! I think this would be something fun to try myself.
Final Thoughts
That was a fantastic session getting to know Marina and her experiences thus far at Fetchly. Fetchly is a fantastic company and a significant project development team to be a part of, with colleagues supporting you on one end and superiors encouraging you to grow. Keep an eye out for job posts on
